Aguirre steps downPosted by footballblogger in Untagged |
It was Aguirre's second spell as national coach, he took over from Sven-Goran Eriksson 15 months ago, after the Swede's disastrous time spell in charge.
Mexico can count themselves unlucky to have come up against an impressive Argentina team at the knock-out stage
They looked impressive in Group A, beating France 2-0 and drawing with hosts South Africa to finish second. Those betting world cup quarter finals money on who would progress never back the Mexicans if we are being honest.
Argentina were too strong for them and much betting world cup semi final money will be placed on them beating Germany in the next round and making it to the last four.
The future looks bright for Mexico though, Javier Hernandez, Carlos Vela and Giovani dos Santos all looked impressive in South Africa. All three are under 23 and will have the chance to perform in future World Cups. New Manchester United striker Hernandez showed his class with his two goals at these finals, he will be hoping to challenge for a first team spot at Old Trafford this season.
Arsenal's Vela has been through a long learning process under Arsene Wenger, it remains to be seen if Wenger thinks Vela is ready to make the step-up yet. Dos Santos's future is less clear than his team mates, the Spurs player spent the end of last season on loan at Galatasary, and is widely expected to leave this summer. There is a good chance his performances in South Africa may have convinced his club coach Harry Redknapp that he has the ability to play in the EPL.
