Gerrard warns of complacency at LiverpoolPosted by Oatesomr in Untagged |
Steven Gerrard has called on his Liverpool team-mates to push on and make a concerted effort to ensure they finish the season in the Premier League top four.
The Anfield side are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League matches and a 1-0 victory in the Merseyside derby at the weekend saw them rise above Tottenham to occupy fourth spot.
They are now one point clear in that position and face third-place Arsenal on Wednesday and a win would put them to only two points behind their North London rivals.
Gerrard has told the Liverpool Echo that it was a "well deserved" victory over Everton and the side now needs to take that performance into upcoming games to ensure they remain in the final Champions League qualification place.
"We know there is a long way to go and we want to make sure we are in the top four at the end of the season," said the Liverpool captain.
"There are a couple of very tough games coming up but if we can show what we have done in the last six games, I don't see why we can't maintain it."
After the derby win Gerrard's Liverpool team-mate Jamie Carragher said the side have improved defensively in recent weeks but he understands that Arsenal pose a great danger to the side's recent impressive record.
The Premier League football odds make Arsenal favourites to win the match, but they will have to make sure they put their chances away against a resilient Liverpool side.
