World Cup 1982 Film

G'olé! - The official film of the 1982 World Cup Football Finals, highlighting all the drama, dreams, hopes and heartaches. Commentary by Sean Connery, with powerful music by Rick Wakeman.

You see it all! Two very different, and yet ironic, beginnings of young careers: Maradona's first World Cup for Argentina and the young Norman Whiteside of Northern Ireland. The perennial greats: Italy, West Germany, Brazil and not to mention the great Michel Platini of France. The wacky and weird: Kuwait, and how the Sheikh stops a match! The long-shots: Cameroon and their musical culture, as well as New Zealand and their desire simply to stay alive.

The commentary by Sean Connery is brilliant and poetic once intermingled with the action and scenic views of the host country, Spain, as well as the spectators who let themselves go while cheering on their own countries.

Argentina, as hosts in 1978, were under great pressure to succeed. Amidst passionate supporters, they progressed to the finals with a wonderful blend of attacking football and tough defending. The unlucky Dutch, now lacking Cruyffs' sublime skills, were the fall guys once again in the Final, losing 3-1 in a classic clash of styles.

holland-euro-88.jpg

The official Euro 88 movie. The 1988 UEFA European Football Championship final tournament was held in West Germany. It was the eighth European Football Championship, which is held every four years and supported by UEFA. The final tournament took place between 10 June and 25 June 1988.

At the time, only eight countries could compete in the final tournament. Seven countries had to qualify for the final stage. West Germany qualified automatically as hosts of the event. The holders, France, failed to qualify. The tournament eventually crowned Netherlands as European champions for the first, and so far only time.

Euro 88 was a rare incidence of a major football tournament being completed without a single player being sent off, any knockout matches going into extra time or penalties and having at least one goal scored in every match.
